I am replacing shiplap siding vertical on a home, the homeowner told me he plans on replacing the roof after I started this, from a roofers perspective is it possible to still come in to roof without taking new siding off? I always leave siding up of shingles at least a half inch... Im thinking they'll just leave the old step flashing?

Have the roofers come in replace the roof and flashings before you start the siding. Its annoying ripping around new siding, one errant shingle ruins a nice job.

Another thing about roofing first if you can is you don't have to worry about shingles marking up the new siding if wind catches them.

Their should always be a counter-flashing detail of which each attaching trade is responsible for, so as to provide a weather-proof juncture.

Standard NRCA detail.

We have no problem installing siding before the roofing.

However, most practices involve merely installing roof flashing, then simply covering-over the roof flashing with the siding.
