Not sure about the mud never used it, but yeah you should sand the paint real good and take a texture roller load it up and have at it. then use a 24" knife smooth it out

Has anyone used either Hamilton Prep coat, or Hamilton Smooth coat before?
What is the difference? Can't get an answer at Home Hardware.
I've got sunlight on glossy paint when a door is opened, and the HO doesn't like what he sees. He's very....discerning.
What I would like to do is rough up the paint, coat the whole wall, sand, then repaint.
Can it be rolled on? It's a reno so there is furniture to trip over. But at least he has A/C!!!

from bad to much much worse
Okay, sanded it with 150 lightly, rolled on thinned mud. The roller skipped in several places and wouldn't stick in others, so I do let it dry a bit before reapplying.
And then the paint began to bubble in four-five places!!!!
Cut the bubbles off, and it looks like the paint wasn't even stuck down.
Shoot me.

Where you skim coated were the walls painted? cause if they were that's your problem. mud will not bond to painted surfaces.
Prime with an oil base primer, then skim the wall with mud and sand, prime and paint. Tough luck there. If you do enough work, these things are bound to happen. Just a matter of time. It's part of our continuing education!
Be sure you are useing a good "bondong" primer! Do not skimp here!
