I'll drop my tape down the wall just to get a new one! New tools are awesome.

 

I'm not a block layer so I was wondering what kind of tools would be left sitting on top of a block wall that might fall in before the blocks are conc. filled?

 

Usually an s-jointer, trowel, backfiller, tape measure, level or a hammer

Channel locks, pliers, diags, never tape measures, razor knives, but mostly old beer cans... I've never dropped anything in cmu but I find them 30 years later.

 

 

Well you got two options for the most part.
Fish whatever it is out with either a fishing pole with a big hook or use a string and a magnet
OR
Put a hole in the wall to extract it and cover with a blow out patch before pouring the wall.
