Ok, I am going do some major reno's on my own house ( only been:thumbsup: 15 or so year's in the making) Major one is the removal & replacement of some 2 windows, tri pane 12'X 6'2' approx. 600 lbs each by my calculations. Any one have brilliant idea on taking these monsters out safely? I have done lots of windows but still tryin to wrap my head around doing this., Oh and these are on a second story !! there is a small deck about 20 or so inches below the sill of the windows. I have thought of a shotgun blast from inside, but that seams really *******, and messy !

I'm with Warren and Randy on this one. Probably easiest to break it out.

Screw some osb to the exterior trim to cover the window on the outside and put down some masonite/tarps on the inside and have at it. A 10 or12' piece of angle iron or steel pipe works well for the initial break (use like a battering ram) and keeps you out of range of falling shards.

You will probably be surprised how much effort it takes to break it. Heres a couple pics of a large mirror I hit about 10 times with a maul and then it just dropped on to the vanity. Had that happen twice in the last two years:whistling:rolleyes::clap:

Thanks for input, I have replaced lots of sealed units in past 20 or so years, but nothing this big. The suction cubs is first option but because of the weight, I need 8 guys and 8 cups ( got 2) and still have to lower it 10 ft. to ground level. I think going to bust iot out, with what I dont know. Spring loaded centre punch most finess way. But shooting or the toilet would be fun. Just got do it as safe as possible. Maybe invite a clean up crew for steak & beer!!

Put Ice and water on both sides of the glass and smash it out.
Ice and water? Carpet plastic so you can see it getting smashed.

How are you installing the new ones? Reverse the process.

We have used scaffold to install this big of window and to take them out, but we could remove the end casements.

Can you use a forklift to set or tip it out onto. Say put a large pallet on the forks or a cage?
