Progress update. Started sheeting now. Light snow flurries this morning.

With all the green it seems like I should put a big red bow on the house, but I don't think the Hindu HO's would approve.

Looks like fun, but where's the rafter hangers? With the snow loads you have, why isn't there more structural hardware in the roof?

Hardware isn't the be all and end all of building. Wood framed structures were being built 100 years before structural hardware came around and a significant number are still around today. Not everybody lives in California.

it's not about what's 'needed' it's what Simpson has lobbied to make code in most states. everything is over engineered and over built to line more pockets.

1784 meet 2014

Here are some pictures of a pent roof that my brother-in-law replaced as part of a larger renovation project.

The old one was torn down, as it was rotted, full of bees, etc.

Precutting the "trusses" on the CNC kept everything easy and fast

They are indexed on 24" centers with an interlocking notched plywood strip and then dimensional purlins provide the strength and plywood nailing.

I liked this one, the juxtaposition of old and new methods was pretty neat.
