I thought it would be cool to be able to come to one place and view everyones framing, so post away.
Times are busy right now so builders take the help they can get. When things slow down and guys are fighting for work people who do hack work will be getting fewer phone calls. Also why are you letting the builder dictate the price to you? If you know what it cost to do the job the right way then stick to your guns and tell them this is what it cost and this is why I'm the best guy for the job. As a GC I might tell a sub this is what I have budgeted for your trade, but that doesn't mean I always get my way.It hasn't effected business. So agree to disagree.

I still don't get how it is faster to not wrap corners?
When you sheet the butt walls on the ground it won't cover the corner stud on the bye wall.mrcharles said:I don't understand how not wrapping corners saves time?

I just sheet bye walls on the ground, and the middle of the butt walls. Then fill in the ends after walls are up.
I also sheet over the rim boards to tie it all together.
But as far as walls pulling apart if not over lapped I disagree. That's what the double top plate if for.
forgot to add that while we were framing the house in the fall for the new builder the rep from the lumberyard he uses came by and looked at our work and took a bunch of our cards and has since given us a few jobs/new customers and continues to do so. doing the right thing doesn't always pay off right away, but over time things usually work themselves out.exactly. the past few years we definitely had to drop our price on most jobs. we still did everything the right way even if we lost money. never cut corners. last year we framed a house for a builder in his 9 house subdivision. framed it cheap as hell and didn't make any money on it, but still did the right job. next 2 houses he found a cheaper crew to use. they butchered the hell out of those houses. his buddy who was looking for a framer walked through the 3 houses and said "I want the framer who did THIS one" when walking through ours. we framed a house for him in the fall, trimmed it out for him 2 months ago and now he's got more houses for us. cause he wants quality and he saw it in our work. it doesn't matter what you're being paid, your name is still on it and it affects jobs down the line. separate yourself from the pack, don't stoop down and blend in. right now we're so overloaded with good paying work it's ridiculous. because these GCs have used the cheap crews and saw the difference.
Until you pick the wall up and it's 11" wider then the spot it goes inmrcharles said:Just overhang your sheet, it's not rocket appliances.
Absolutely never lower your standards, it will pay off!!exactly. the past few years we definitely had to drop our price on most jobs. we still did everything the right way even if we lost money. never cut corners. last year we framed a house for a builder in his 9 house subdivision. framed it cheap as hell and didn't make any money on it, but still did the right job. next 2 houses he found a cheaper crew to use. they butchered the hell out of those houses. his buddy who was looking for a framer walked through the 3 houses and said "I want the framer who did THIS one" when walking through ours. we framed a house for him in the fall, trimmed it out for him 2 months ago and now he's got more houses for us. cause he wants quality and he saw it in our work. it doesn't matter what you're being paid, your name is still on it and it affects jobs down the line. separate yourself from the pack, don't stoop down and blend in. right now we're so overloaded with good paying work it's ridiculous. because these GCs have used the cheap crews and saw the difference.
All gets covered and you will never see the beautiful framing.last couple.
Back in my framing days, clean beautiful framing was why we always got called back by the general who appreciated pretty work. It was also a reason we could get top dollar for our work. All gets covered and you will never see the beautiful framing.
How can it tie it all together if it doesn't reach:blink:Am I the only guy who wraps the osb over the corners anymore? What about the housewrap? Is someone else putting that on?
That's what sheer is and should do.
Agree! I don't understand not tieing across the floor systems. How can it tie it all together if it doesn't reach:blink:

Just a question, but are you not taping your joints because its siding guys job or are you not supposed to. I've been seeing more and more guys with no tape and wraping the house in tyvek after which looks like a PITA.Rushing these 2 up and have a third house beside these with a walkout and first floor on using as a prefab table. Trusses are up on the walls. Got the loft section to build still. Moving along good on these we are a week in. Back roof is on and sheeted and mostly all back framed inside.
These two are the same model just different elevation on the front. About 2700 sq each.
