I always just router a small hole in the wall and sling both plates. On that specific part I always put in 5 or 6 hand spikes careful not to over drive.

I've never had a problem with up to a 44'x9' wall

A few progress pics of my house. I'm working solo on this.

Trusses for the main house are next week.

I bought it for installing screw piles and standing trusses for quonsets but it works for this stuff too

I have done the wall built up to the bottom of the subfloor quite often. Just put some extra glue and nail the sheats on top of the studs. works super well on two story homes as also. Electrition and plumbers love it.
I did this on my last build as well, made more sense being the knee wall also had major LVL header in it with two levels of parallam posts bearing on it.

Why would you need house wrap to put trusses on??? BTW southern Alberta is subject to high wind areas, and therefore framers never put house wrap on. Though we are required to put on a strip of house wrap with a 2x2 for soffit backing. Not required there jt?
What kind of question is this? Of course one doesn't need it on to swing, it just saves time and is safer to do it on the ground. If I worked in your area, I'd be finding a way.

I've worked on framing hundreds of homes never once put any house wrap on anything. The lathers did that. Now there are times we added paper behind shutter backing or some small pieces so the lather can tie into it. But that's it.

Unless something very profitable comes up I'll be siding it myself, but there was a couple reasons I left the paper off.

1. It rarely snows this time if year.
2.The paper might have blown off. It is windy here.
3. It rarely gets above freezing this time if year, so any precipitation just falls off
4.I have a man lift on site so I can paper without much hassle. Plus I can paper into the soffit without a seam.

I've seen builders insulate and drywall without paper installed on it in the winter.

That's crazy but realistically I'd bet everything was fine.

@Californiadecks, the context was Canada, and where these points were not involved. In your circumstance, I agree it would not be best practice. When I am the guy putting housewrap on, I do all I can on the ground...it's an absolute waste of time and safety not too...being I don't need nail inspection for sheer issues and wind is not a major issue.

Now, if it can't go on for the reasons you listed, fine, don't.

Where's that clear see through Tyvek we need...;-)

The home I just finished framing had its Tyvek on for more than a month and had 30-40 mph winds. Thats probably low for some of you guys, I didn't have much of an issue but did need to make sure it was stapled well. The lower grade watershed wrap material would certainly have frayed some.

No one around here uses regular ply for shear walls. We are the king of seismic as well. If I was in a wet climate I might revisit that. But strength isn't why you pick ply over OSB. If that was the case they wouldn't use it for TJI's.

Yes yes, of course it is, and yeah I know earthquakes, lived through one of the largest recorded, while living in Chile in 2011.

Now enters grade, and thickness in this discussion. I've always considered my area's comparable osb less sheer rated than our plywood. Maybe I am mistaken.

A few more from today.

FWIW, those holes in the gable end came that way from the plant. It wasn't us:banghead:

Last couple houses, the last one had a couple 35 degree walls, nothing too complicated in these though.

And we have Tyvek crews here. Thats is all they do..
