What's the deal with that steel beam?

 

I think since it's 14' high with 3- 6'x 6'4" windows and 6'x 3' transoms above there's not enough framing for shear wall. Plus that the area is all patio below on lakefront.

 

The lower beam extends out both ways for decks. It gets masonry columns at both ends

Not to be critical, but I can't help but notice one of your windows is a 1/16 out.

 

Prolly the one I used a square on. Oh, well. After all, it is an R.O. Significant digits are 3/4".

And the whole thing was plumbed with a laser.

 

Tall wall we lifted a few days ago . We had to sub this framing out because our crew is busy elsewhere . It's a big place with a wicked roof but what can ya do . Crazy wall I say

Kiteman I have a few questions
Do sheet all the walls with zip then energy shield on top ? Or is it just the corners if so why? Do you always sheet the roof before fascia boards ?

General rules are zip on corners for shear and foam on the rest, for r-value and cost.

Except:
Zip on all garage walls
Zip on all walls over 10'
Zip on walls with brick or stone

What are the rafters? They look small

 

That must be a pain in the ass switching back and forth when sheeting walls how do they make up the 1/4 diff between sheets ?
18' that would be handy ours is 10' but thinking of making up a bigger one these winter

 

2x8 rafters throughout where usually we do all 2x6 with purlins for everything over 12'

I used to always do soffits before standing where practical. Not as much now and there aren't many long runs on this one plus it was windy, cold, lots of different wall heights, etc etc.
