Oops....gonna need to work that out. I'm really finding out what I don't know with this program. I like how easy it is to get a visualization, but making a working set of drawings (that don't give physics the middle finger) is where the skills really come in to play.
I'll get there though.

I'm working on graphics for "the book". My problem is putting too much on a page.....like this for example. I want t o give different views and labelling to allow the reader to absorb whatever is most natural for them.

 

More book graphics. I sometimes see something and it's confusing....and then the same info in a different way seems easy......so here is a different view.

Do you plan on explaining how to frame a roof with a tape and framing square?

I originally learned framing square and tracing full length patterns (1990 - Houston area)..........I don't do that anymore.

 

I've never run across this as a framer, so I don't know if this is even allowed. It's not addressed in the IRC so have any of you done this. It's all deflection on the joists. I'm sure it will take eng calcs.

 

It's nonprescriptive. I had this on an existing interior load bearing wall where the floor joists had sagged.

 

You’re basically adding a point load to the floor joist. I wouldn’t call it an inverse cantilever. It’s similar to a point load on a beam in my mind. I can’t remember if FotreWeb allows you to run the floor joist calculation with a configuration like that or not. Of course an engineer would also know.

 

I've built that detail. The offset was 36". I had to block under the upper wall, and I think there was a strap detail to tie the wall into the floor framing. Obviously the TJ's were way upsized, but it worked.
