I've have a friend who does radio broadcasts of high school football, and basketball games in my area. He's offered to run free radio spots for my company during the broadcasts and during his weekly Wed night talk show.

This is a great opportunity for me to get my company name out there, but I'm unsure about the direction the ads should take.

Has anyone had much experience with radio ads?

What has been effective? What hasn't?

Should the ads be geared toward developing overall name recognition or "branding" if you can call it that? or...

Should they be service driven? i.e. this is what we do, this is why we're the best, blah blah. or...

Should they be promotional in nature with a call to action. i.e. mention that you heard about GoCo on 66.6 FM and get 10% off your kitchen remodel?

Any thoughts or insight is appreciated.

Turn Your Radio On?

Sounds like you have 2 deals going here. At the football games in your local town that are being broadcast during a game then you are branding. Just get your name out there as many times as you can.

But if you are advertising on the radio then talk directly to your client and have a strong call to action. Call me within the next 30 minutes to receive free dinner for 2 just for calling for an estimate. Or a 100 gift coupon.

When at the games do something crazy to stand out. Have fun with it and get the buzz going and embarrass your kids along the way.:w00t:

Sorry.

I didn't clarify the original message. All the spots will all be on the radio.

My friend does the play by play and/or color commentary on the radio for local high school sports. He covers the whole region, as opposed to just one school.
