PVA or what

Hey,

What do you guys use on new smooth wall finish sheetrock? I did a job last week and used Sherwin Williams Southwest Builders Surfacer. Worked great covered well, dried a little faster than it could be back rolled but other than that everyone was pleased including the sheetrock crew and the super picky gc.

This product cost double what the local pva primer cost.

Primer? who uses primer?

6-2 Speedhide primer from PPG or Moores 253-00 Super Spec Undercoater/Primer Both work pretty well for me but I guess it depends on what the finish product is gonna be.

Cheap flat....2-112 Wall Supreme PPG, 2 coats and no primer

Cheap Egg....depending on color 2 coats no primer or 1 coat tinted 6-2 or 253, and 1 coat finish ( 2 depending on color )
Best primer I've ever used on new drywall is SW Prep rite. I won't paint it unless it's primed. PVA sucks.
Wasn't there a thread on here for months from a guy getting sued for peeling paint from prep rite primer used on new sheet rock? If I remember the home owner supplied prep rite; the contractor ran out and used some cheap stuff. The paint stuck to his primer but not to the prep rite.

I remember that thread.
I typically use pva for new drywall.
i prefer pva

but i have used thousands of gallons of prep rite 200 or 400 without any issues
