Dear Mike,
Thank you for reviewing this information regarding the Santa Margarita Water District Bridge Renovation. We have 5 bridges in need of new decking and railings. I have attached a picture of one of the bridges per our conversation. I am waiting on purchasing to send an updated link to the prevailing wage requirements for the project. This is a link to the Contractor Registration website for the State DIR (Department of Industrial Relations) that your company would have to register with.

dir reg is currently 4 bills.

you must be registered to bid.

renewal fee of 4 bills comes due again on july 1.

lots of guys not aware of this.

likely you will have to be bonded (materials & performance). probably not an issue but the first time can/may take some time.

read the plans & specs with a high powered electron microscope.

have fun....

I worked for a company that only did institutional work and public works for 10 years, be prepared to lose a bid to a company that is much higher than yours but is owned by a minority female. My boss went crazy until he found out all of the tricks that are used. Like Griz said read bid specs fifty times over carefully

Yeah the prevailing wage paperwork can be a real pain in the azz especially if you get an audit.

As long as you pay your guys what they’re supposed to be paid it’s not a big deal provided you have the paperwork showing it.

We did small (2day job) PW job and had an audit a whole year later....

There is decent money in small PW jobs though since the larger outfits that normally do PW work usually dont want them

around here in chicago the good thing about a small PW job is the fact that you’re in and out quickly if the union finds you..By the time they figure it out your already done and gone

We replaced and handful of those type Bridges cpl of yrs ago for the City. We got hired by a mega union commercial outfit to be there SUB. Brought my dogs to the park every day. Had lil wagon with everything needed for job. The bridges looked like the Bridges you would see in national park. Almost like what the core of army engineers would spec.

The best part was that the bids we would lose we knew there was a high probability we would be called to get the system up and running because the other bidders had to buy the spec'ed systems through our company since we were the regional distributors. :thumbsup:

They said no permits and no inspections. She basically winked and said we need to make this project as simple as possible. I asked who's contract gets signed. She said if I want them to sign mine it will need to go through there legal department if I sign There's, it doesn't need to go that route.

No special bonds either. Here's the wage chart.

Here's her reply when I asked about the contract.

Michael,
Typically, we have a front end contract, and your contract is an exhibit within. This then gets sent through our legal team to make sure that we can sign. If you sign our contract with no adjustments it does not have to go through legal. We are fine doing it either way.

They are child's play compared to some of my stuff. This is a great opportunity to learn here. Small easy and a great way to get into the door.

Yup. I've few job's where they were can you build let me know how much and when. One if them It was the bridges we did for a park here in the city.

going to guess these bridges are being put out under the cupcca informal bid process.

there is a dollar limit to the projects, with the informal bid process, and a "project" can not be broken down to come in under dollar limits.

Having done a couple of public works projects in the past, I'm not sure if they were worth the extra paperwork and meetings required. Any deviations took a week and endless meeting to get OK'd. Those increased wages will also increase other associated costs.

No extra bond, no permits, no inspections very easy build and a great learning experience. I think I'm going to go for it.

Hell not even a set of plans.
