I've got to dig a short trench for new propane line install on my house. For the life of me I can't remember how deep the line needs to be. It is 2-100 gallon above ground tanks going to a regulator on the house. There is nothing for me to hit those of you that are thinking why hasn't he mentioned dig safe. They've been here a couple times in the past two years anyway. I think the depth is 18" or 24". I'm going to over dig slightly anyway and make sure I have enough sand in the trench. I'm in Massachusetts. Thanks for any help, Nick

I was looking for a natural gas line once and could not find it where it was marked to be. After digging by hand on both sides of the locate a good ways about 2.5 - 3 feet deep. Thought gas lines are not usually deeper than that they must got it marked wrong.

Turns out when gas Co. put line in they deemed it cultivated land/field so they buried it 4 feet deep. So there might be differing depth requirements depending on the case.

Don't think this is going to be your case the story was to save other excavators the time find this out the hard way when looking for a line. Likely will apply to other types of lines as well when installing them or smart to put a little deeper don't want a plow run threw them if in a field.
