I am wrapping a deck with 1x12's. I have some 1x12 pine plank boards. Can I prime and paint these boards or do you recommend using the pre-primed finger jointed pine for exterior applications? Thanks

My suggestion? Don't use a wood that's soft & rots. Heck, I don't even like Cedar!

Azek or equivalent if you want it white & there forever.

Otherwise, stained PT... Douglas Fir or Redwood..perhaps another option.

I used some preprimed finger jointed pine crown one time (inside)painted
I went back for one year walk through
There was close to a half inch space on every cope:no:
.....where did you get this pine? Did you let it acclimate to the home before hanging it? Was it stored on freshly poured garage floor prior to hanging...I HATE when a yard drops it off there. Its nice they put it inside but that is a bad spot...the trim soaks up the moisture...I have never had a problem with PFJ....
