I wonder if the Planex has been dropped or damaged in some way?

Does reducing the vacuum suction help any?

 

I don't think it has been, I'm a one man show and no one else uses it.

I've been playing with speed and suction today, nothing really seems to change. Head seems to rotate without issue, I took a video I'll try posting later

Does is have the stock pad or soft pad?

 

It has the stock pad on it, guessing I'm going to need to drop the $140 for the soft pad?

Buy an interface pad. It is a thin pad that goes between the paper and pad.

When I switched to a soft pad the machine operated like I thought it should have from day one. I think its the one that should come with the units. They do wear out because the foam is softer...fyi. I would get one to try out.

This is the interface pad I’ve used. At times I’ll stack 2. It does affect the dust extraction a little.

I was close to calling you the other day, but I was too annoyed with the planex and took my frustration out hand sanding the entire room. It is a more recent problem

Thank you both for the input, I'll try the interface pad first before ordering the extra kit.

I was a little concerned I would run in to this problem with my Makita sander since it uses the same discs, have not used it yet.
I checked out the pad and it's has a 3/8 foam pad.
Just wondering if this is different than the one Festool supply's with Planex? I'm guessing the planex one is rubber?

Would be interesting to see if a Makita pad would fit on Festool or other way around. Doubt it.

Owned and used the Planex for years. Not sure what the pad is made of.....

any one give the GRANAT NET sanding discs a try on the planex yet?
If so do you notice a difference in dust extraction?
They don't make a NET protective layer for planex like they do for the smaller FEST sanders. Any issues with not having that protection layer?

Actually I wonder if this would last longer than the more expensive soft pad does.

 

And Dewalt just announced a 20v sander to compete with Makitas...it looks very nice initially.

 

My problem with interface pad is the I already have a soft pad, how thick is the interface pad?
This is the protection pad I thought I might need. But I think the interface pad might be why they don't make a protection pad, or maybe the protection pads are only needed for sanding wood (less heat?)

My guess is 3mm.

I use the protection pads on all the other sanders.

damn another 80 bucks! lol im up to 300 now :laughing:
might have to compromise and get some normal granat paper for the 200 grit.

I plan on using Granat net 80 grit to remove some ceiling texture and want to use whatever gives the the best dust extraction.

I've removed a lot of popcron from ceils using the Saphir 36.

Make a wedge that holds the vacuum lever on the head 50% of edge/center. I wish there was a setting on the head mid way, it provides the best dust collection.

Use the nornal Granat 80 paper to remove the texture, finish with 180 or 220.

When you plan on doing this? I can send you some sheets of Saphir and Brilliant (I prefer Brilliant to Granat on drywall) next month. The Planex and paper are back home (again) in Indiana.

I think they'll fit in a 8-1/2x11 envelope.

just checked my cam and didnt get any ceiling pics. Its un painted orange peel, real chalky and soft.
I'm starting the job next week but thanks.
worst case my sander came with one 120 grit that would probably eat through it, only doing one room.

 

Unpainted and that soft, use the 120.
