Hi all,

Can someone explain the pros and cons of Perko and Overhead door closers.

I am having a carpenter fit a door closer for the fire door in my kitchen of a house I rent out. He has recommended that he fits an Overhead closer and believes the Perko ones are pretty naff.

Obviously Overhead don't look great in domestic but are they poor?

Any opinions appreciated.

Thanks

An overhead door closer in a residential situation will probably result in the clear head room being below 6'8". That makes it out of code. Most commercial doors with overhead closers are 7'0" doors. Also, closers of fire doors require you to use the appropriate steps and hardware, or they change the fire door rating

I put them on 6' 8" doors all the time head room has not come up. If the door is to the garage you have to have a closer. I've installed hundreds of thousands of closers but I can't help with those particular brands . Most of the ones I put in are LCN I like that brand the most. I've done enough of them that. Have the instructions memorized and have made templets the install goes fast
