I just finished a small bathroom remod.The customer kept their old cabinets circa 1978.One side of the cabinet is in poor shape,nail holes and what not.
The customer asked me if I thought she could/should paint it.

What say you?I had no idea what to tell her.She wants to fill the nail holes(there was some stuff nailed to it that has been removed) and paint one section of it the same color as the walls.

I have heard of people painting formica using some kind of epoxy.

Sure you can paint it. You can even apply a cement overlay to it and make it look just like stone. I do a few tops a month with this method.

Yeah here's some of my samples...They have 500 degree scorch resistance, food safe, more tensile strength than granite, and totally customizable.

Girl Painter. That looks great!! How well/long does the paint hold up? What sort of top coat do you use? Also what is the cost verses just replacing w/ new formica?

A couple brands of products I know of for countertops are Daich and Modern Masters. Check out their company websites.

I scuffed the sruface then used faux effect product called prime etch. The I layered paint with sponges, let it thoughly dry and used a barrier coat of aqua gaurd. Then Finished with a commercial grade Urathane call
c -500 , Also a faux effects product. It lasted 2 years and I just did a light scuff and re applied the C-500. Looks great.

Oh I charged them 325.00. about 6 hours total work....3 surfaces total.
