I removed the old 12 inch squares on the ceiling of the living room. That was held on by 1/2" x 2 " wood strips. I removed the wood strips and lost all the insulation .ended up replacing the insu
Ation as well. Now im gonna install 1/2 sheet rock and will end up haveing a 1/2" gap. At the walls ceiling area. How do i fix this? Simply tape and mud at the corners.

How big is the room? Could you fur down the ceiling? Could you use 5/8" rock to at least close the gap a little?

Otherwise you would want to use "hot" mud to fill your gap. I would flat tape your joint then put the corner tape over that.

you're speaking in future tense, therefore 1/2 strips to fur the ceiling down just a bit more. Maybe use 7/16 OSB-to ensure you can get the ceiling rock above the wall rock.
With OSB I use the self drilling drywall screws - I've had too many problems with the regular drywall screws just spinning on the OSB surface.
