I've recently had a roof installed (new construction), using standing seam with a vented ridge cap (and soffit vents). I'm now noticing a water leak coming from somewhere, but it's hard to pin point exactly where. The roofer thinks it's caused by wind driven rain/snow, which it could be, so he's suggesting we block the vents and switch to a gable end style vent design. The issue I see is the style of roofing used required the ridge vent to be installed before the panels, so we can't easily swap out for a non-vented cap.
I'll add that it's only leaking in the center 4-5 rafter bays on the rear of the house, which could be related to a dormer existing dead center of the house that we think wind may be traveling up the valley into the ridge vent (although its 10' away).... Or is there a unique seam dead center of the house where the two panels, from left and right, meet?
How would you recommend sealing off this type of cap and do you have any other suggestions?
thanks,
