Went with my boss to look at about $2k, drywall, tear-out, replace, texture, paint job. He got the contract/deposit/etc. done, all was fine CORRECT?? NO!!

The customer said, "you can start any day you please after 3pm when I get home from work"

I THOUGHT hell was going to turn to ice! LOL

Why do people WANT work done, TRUST you to do the work, BUT, don't TRUST you in their home, un-attended? We are Bonded, Insured, (Nation wide Company), "RECOMMENEDED", by HER Insurance Co. ETC!

I just don't get some things???

Sorry, HAD TO VENT!!!!

Standard working hours are 7 to 4:30. Anything after that has to be specified in the contract and will come with an increase in the contract price.

I'd hand him the check back if he wouldn't back down on the 3pm start time.

Does he expect to be tolerant of the guys working from 3pm to 11:30 pm...really?

Had something like that a couple years ago.

Guy calls us "Do you do replacement windows?"

"Yes we do" and I tell him a little about them.

He asks "Do you have a sample you could show us?"

"Yes, I could bring it and show you"

He replies "Friday is Good Friday, I have the day off, I'll be home."

I tell him "So will I"

Him "What?"

I tell him "You said Friday was Good Friday and you had the day off and would be home. It is Good Friday and I have the day off and I will be home also"

So he acts surprised and asks "Well when can you bring the sample to our house?"

"Monday morning." I tell him

He says "Monday? I'll be at work."

"So will I"

As said above, access to the work area must be included in the contract. Did you say that this is a National Company somewhere? They should have a contract that includes this clause.

People do put a lot of trust in us being in their domicile without them there but the ones that do stupid stuff usually end up on the news.

My residential work hours are 8-4. It gives the parents enough time to get the rug rats out to school and gets me out of there before it becomes awkward.

Leave the after hours work to the moonlighters. In other words...WALK.

8-4 also. I do like to start about 7:30 though. It never occurred to me that it isn't in my contracts.
It will be from now on.

I recently had a job with a tight deadline. I told the owner we would have to work nights and weekends to meet the deadline. He said, "Ok. Make sure you reflect that in your quote." It was nice to hear. They paid with no problem.

I would walk from that one. Or run.

I fixed the price for you, PITA factor went up by at least 3 the second she started dictating hours for you......
I did a job last year for a little old lady who wished to schedule us day by day around her errands. My boss knew going in there would be some of that and priced it as such. Turned out it was not nearly enough. Coulda, shoulda, woulda, maybe just not taken that one.....
