Is anyone here from ND, or thinking of relocating there?
I know the housing market is going crazy up there right now and I am considering cashing in on this.
I'm just looking to hear some of the pros & cons from some of you that are, or have worked up there.

P/S I know its cold...

I did one project out there for a relative. I will not go back. Economy is very good out there and can charge a premium for your work. But the cost of living out there is very high and the people out there are not your locals anymore. There has been an increase in violent crime out there that the local police are not used to. Just my opinion though.

Interesting take. I never would have thought ND would be like that.

I've never been out there so I guess it goes to show what the out-of-towners think.

there is all the work you would ever need but the crime is bad.
I did a hotel 2 years ago paid 30 buck a hour for labor and it was all i could do to keep guy on the job.
there is no place to live at all. a guy in town here is building 12 x 96 foot trailers that have 6 unit in them each unit rents for 250 bucks a day he has a 50 million $ contract with one of the oil company.
they are selling homes for over 250 bucks a sq ft for a basic unit.

I was born in Bismarck and grew up working construction in the family business. It ain't for sissies.

I relocated to Tn decades ago but from what I hear the boom up there is biblical...especially out in the west. My buddies that still build up there say it's very hard to get their subs out to do the work. A lot of waiting. If you're a self contained operation that wouldn't apply to you. Depending on where you land the property taxes can be a killer.

If you like to hunt and fish you'd love it!!!!!!...of course I'm biased. If you're thinkin of droppin down right in the middle of the action.....you better have a nice camper.....all the hotel rooms are bought up for the next 8 to 12 years by the oil companies...it's absolute insanity.

My wife's cousin pays $900.00 a month for a spot to park his camper. He's glad to have it to. Often times a 400 ft one room apartment is 2200.00. It's all relevant to where you are at and who you know. I know a lot of guys that won't drive back up there and it's not that far from here.

On a different note, that boom has made it really difficult to find help here.
