We had a installation for natural gas babecue.the customer suggested that if we could branch the pipe from outside, just downstream of the gas meter. because he didn't want us to make a hole through the wall. My boss said "no, we can't do that because the branch is too close to the meter". I live in Mississauga, Ontario.I am new in this trade, but I have a gas code book and couldn't find anything like that in the book. Could anybody give the answer, I would appreciate that.

I think what he was saying was, the appaliance has to be at least 10 feet from the meter. They do this so as to protect the meter from open flame.
So if you were to place a tee at the meter, the grill could be placed within this protected area.
Hope that answers your question.
