today is a good day, i have finally figured out why i am not profitable using walnuts....my nuts are too big!!
i am using eco-shell walnuts and the bag says "fine" i assume that means the smallest they make, nope. I find out today that "fine" means 20-40 grit. which is much too coarse for a #5 tip. (according to surface-tek) i have been told to go to a 35-60grit and my problems will go away.

very happy about that.

my wholesaler only carries 20-40 12-20 and 8-12 need to find a new dealer i think

so if you guys are having problems blasting walnuts yournuts might be too big too.

I've got so many many comebacks for that post.
I think I had better log off now.:jester:

And one more post so I can beat you in post counts.

What was happening?
When I went to coarse I would get a big lot off media then nothing and would have to muck around with the settings on my pot. My SB 500 use to do that on really fine glass as well.

will check into it. surface tek wants 23.50 bag/delivered being in Canada it sucks sometimes finding deals on material. except for crushed glass thats dirt cheap. lol

i just talked with my supplier and he says that the nuts may not be the problem, its that i am getting too much air impeding the flow of nuts. his advice was to slightly close my ball valve and the flow should come back. i do trust his advice as thats their only business is blasting supplies (they make mod-u-blast stuff) the majority of his customers blast with 12-20 nuts for automotive stuff

Hey, rather... if you are looking for something different to try, we used Super K (potassium sulfate) from SurfaceTek. However, they do not carry it anymore but we did keep an empty bag which had the manufacturer name on it .... Big Quill Resources out of Saskatchewan. Contacted them and its not feasible for us to ship it here (they wanted minimum of 4 pallet purchase to us here in midwest U.S - think it was about $700/ pallet without shipping). And actually one of the top guys actually gave me a "follow up" call to be sure that we understood about the minimum due to shipping costs. We used it for blasting cars (which is all we have really blasted...). Think it said 0-0-50 on the bag. Paint/rust came off pretty good, but did flash rust FAST (overnight, even). We do have alot of humidity here so that was probably a factor. Don't know if there might be a distributor closer to you so you could try a bag or 2.
