Thanks to Leo for reminding me of this.

Last fall My oldest boy (now 29) and I spent a fun day in the shop together and made this guitar.

He gets such a kick out of the fact that we could walk in with a cigar box and some string and walk out with a very good sounding instrument. I was too, but I try hard to make it look easy.:whistling

It is nice to that he has the guitar but I'm more pleased that we had the shared experience of creating it.

We need to take the time and make the effort, boys. They do appreciate the effort.

You just happened to had the guitar hardware kicking around the shop? Or did you scavenge it from a real guitar?:w00t:

Nice little project there Gus. Maybe sometime you can play us a little ditty.

We shopped for that stuff in the morning at the local music stores. He was supposed to have all that done before hand but...:whistling

He is the guitar player, not me.

I have the saws that sing.

Isn't it really a ukulele?
I thought a guitar had more than
4 strings?

That don't look like the cigar boxes
we got at the drugstore when
I was a kid.

Yo Gus, that thing is way cool. Looks like something Bo Didley would be proud to pick. Awesome project to pull of with your son. I'm sure he's proud of you for your effort.

Very cool!

Why didn't you extend the fretboard over the box like in the one in the video?
Thanks for all the kind words to all of you.

We wanted the lid of the box to remain intact and operable so we didn't notch the lid to extend the fret board into it.

I was the grunt on this job. He told me what he was hoping for and did all the research and I just did the carpentry.

He was the most excited about the fret board. He found all the info on where the frets go and I laid it out and inlaid the maple into the walnut. Sent it through the sander and it really came to life. He was like a kid in the candy store. Very satisfying for both of us.

We didn't have a whole lot of instructions to pull this off. I watched a video similar to this one, got the idea and we went to work.

I never made an instrument before. It was nice to hear him play the blues on it afterward. The kid can play. I can listen and smile.
