So far, Matterport does circles for MatterTags, that can be different colors, but only circle shapes.........I've asked for other shapes with colors so I can have an engineering set, and IRC set with shapes and colors.
Pretty cool. I got trapped in the downstairs bathroom for a bit because I couldn't see a circle on the floor. Kept showing a circle on the door which wouldn't let me through. I got away from the door and moved around until I saw a spot and was able to get through the door.
I caused an error or two by having a door closed then having it open. the downstairs has an outswing door that threw me for a loop. The "pros" use the toolbar in the lower left to jump floors and nav using the 2D overhead view to quickly go from room to wherever
I like that I can show the issues and there is no argument.
our company has one. we don't do drawings but use it for client tours (website, employee engagement, etc.). We also do the scans before drywall for in wall records. Commercial facility managers love that feature.
Amazing, so it can map out an entire structure from one spot? It measures through the walls and still can delineate where those walls are? What a wonderful piece of technology and a tool for as-builts.
Are there any issues with it?
Not from one spot. It does a 360 degree rotation per scan and takes an IR scan and a panorama photo in about 8 seconds of rotation time. You have to move the camera in about 6 feet increments all over the space since the IR range is only about 15'. Matterport takes all the location scans and stitches them together into the walk-through that you view in a browser.
I've never seen a crawlspace scanned before, so that will be fun.
In addition to creating thorough and accurate plans, I want to provide engineers and builders every possible piece of information so they can make informed decisions.
And I like being able to refer back to something, visually, if needed.
