A nice piece of granite with routered edges would look nice & heavy enough to have it be stable.
If you have a granite company you work with, they will probably not even charge you for what it is being used for, (depending on size, but if it could come out of one of their sink cut outs, they just may & free is always good)

It's one thought

good idea,,, but i forgot to add the cemetary is in a very remote area, and needs to be hiked into............
:laughing:Is this someone who REALLY pissed you off? Did you use enough lime?

I know that this is a serious and never happy occurance, but I just wish to bring some laughter in to it! It helps with the grief.

Would something like a steel sleeve or post base be feasible? It might be light enough to pack into the area, and you coul spade out a hole for it.
What kind of wood are using for the cross?
If you don't mind my asking, if it's hard to think of toting in a granite block, how are the departed's remains being brought in?

no offense takin at all..

i was thinkin a post stake that u hammer in the ground like those for a mailbox post etc... might work..
im just building the cross. and the family is going to carry it in so i wanted something easy to secure it without having them carry bags of cement. ya know what i mean??
thanks for the quick and many responses. and yes i liked the one about not forgettin the garlic....

i live in hawaii.
and the cemetary is located on an isolated penisula off the back side of the island that you can only hike into...
does this really sound weird to you guys???
Not so much now. I was picturing a much different scene, some back-woods in Kentucky or something.
Good luck with the cross, and I'm glad you have a sense of humor. It gets pretty ripe on this site, and that's what I like about it.

I am still waiting to hear how big the cross is?

Only i'm so sure this is a hoax i've been afraid to post on it till now.

I can just see Hannibal (Maleko) Lector making some dude carry the cross into the woods for his own grave.

His name is Male knock out, could be he is just paying homage to those that did not survive.

Maleko, that is Hawaiian for man with ability to laugh at indifferent contractors. :eek:http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://www.oz-post.com/html/images/types/new1/T4-600.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.academyfence.com/ozpost/types/&usg=__WHPywjHk3CeVEAch8B5YEZ58rq8=&h=480&w=480&sz=25&hl=en&start=21&tbnid=kpQEfpjcAmsNXM:&tbnh=129&tbnw=129&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmetal%2Bpost%2Banchor%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den
