Call the customer tell them what happened, have them stop payment on the old check if it hasen't been already cashed. Pay for the bank charges to stop payment and have them write a new one. This has happened more than once to me having carpenters bring checks to the office.
Check you pants pockets, check you shirt pockets, check under the seat of the truck. Check every place you could imagine.
If you don't find it in a day or so, you'll have to go and ask for a replacement, and as stated above pay the fees involved.
