Yes & No....if you buy it KNOWING it's a throw away in a few months.Are Kobalt air compressors considered junk?
As was basically already said, if you want real stuff, get a Rolair...if you want something to get you through a few months to a year, get the Kobalt. There's really no way of telling you how long it'll last you, depends on what you're using it for, how hard you're using it, etc...take care of a nice Rolair and you'll have it for a decade...or two...
The air compressor selection at lowes is getting pretty thin these days. They no longer carry the hitachi or blue emglo twin tanks.

The entire tool section at Lowes seems to be lacking these days. I think they are turning into Sears. Seems all the Lowes around here want to push Kobalt and everything else is an after thought.

Normally I wouldn't buy anything with a Kobalt name on it except mechanics tools.

The reviews on the Kobalt are pretty good. Just curious, how loud would you say it is, or isn't?
It's not bad, around here a lot of guys have the pancake style Porter Cable which I find annoyingly loud I don't hear that with the Kobalt. It doesn't take long to refill during use either.The reviews on the Kobalt are pretty good. Just curious, how loud would you say it is, or isn't?
For the price it was worth keeping and giving it a try. I've had it since August and have been using it the last 2 months in a basement. I also bought this: http://www.amazon.com/Legacy-HFZ3850YW2-Flexzilla-Zilla-Green/dp/B001C6NC7O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1399702641&sr=8-3&keywords=flexzilla+air+hose and this:http://www.amazon.com/Milton-715BK-Style-Quick-Coupler/dp/B0000225EC/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1399702836&sr=8-7&keywords=air+coupler+quick+connect I think the couplers and hoses available locally are crap.

at 2.6 CFMs it will run most nailers on a smaller job--reasonable sound level.
I do have a couple of big dual tank compressors for larger jobs---
That MAC700 is a really good compressor. I have had mine for a few years now. Only downside is the weight. It's oil lube and low RPM, so will likely last a long time. Keeps up with anything I do, but I don't do production framing or roofing.
