So just for fun, if you were to take it to the next level and build an actual bunker how would you do it?

Dig a hole, fill with ICF and red iron, then cover it?

Tunnel down and build?

What about power, ventilation, flooding?

Any special building codes apply?

Would you build a house over your bunker or live like mole people?

Would you tie your bunker into the grid or be completely self sufficient? How?

I've seen the old German bunkers at Normandy, they're above ground but cool. I think there's WWII bunkers in Hawaii dug into the side of mountains. Chainsaw Charlie may be able to verify that. Course there's the SAC bunker somewhere in Colorado. Maybe we can send Mike in to remodel the bathrooms and report back some construction ideas.:laughing:

I haven't built an earth sheltered home under my name yet, but that would be my choice...and solely for the energy aspect....cool in summer, warm in winter, low energy, storm safe, assuming you aren't in a flood plain.

I have built many "bunkers"...that here are used as safe rooms, and gun vaults. I have built a few as part of larger buildings and have concealed trap doors or floor covering...and these are used as vaults. Obviously, I cannot post pictures of many of them due to respect for my customers, since I maintain a public profile.

1st, I'd let everyone and their brother know that I want this shelter in my basement and attempt to get bids. A reinforced structure in my basement with a reinforced structure on top of it. Cement and iron...

But, unknown to all, beforehand, I had a bunch of ya'll sneak out, remove half the hill side and build rings of hardened concrete and rebar, one around another and placed them underneath my future 'bomb shelter...

Next, I covered up this ring of iron and cement and laid the ground work for my 're-enforced shelter' (the known one)...

After this and my home were built, I'd start digging and building a silo/shaft underneath this structure within the original rings...

Slipping a few of these in each night, thru the access shaft built over the fake pool....

Slowly building my secret unground lair for the planning of future world conquest!
It could take a direct overhead hit or a near miss from any known weapon of mankind!!!

Ventilation and the such are ultra top secret and can not be discussed here...

oh, plus, I'd have a battalion of mechanized infantry and armor stationed in a underground complex stationed nearby as my rapid response force to deal with any intruders...
