A house I'm working on has 4 sets of Jeld Wen french doors and they all have the same problem. Rain and snow blow in through the division between the doors. You can even see daylight through the bottom few inches. The bottom of the astragal seems to have a rubber boot that has crumbled apart.

Anyone know how to fix this, or who to call? The doors are approximately 8 years old.

Inswinging French door at grade level in snow country. Jeld-Wen just makes it worse. The carpet makes it even more fun.

You might be able to shim or adjust the hinges to help with the astragal. You might be able to find the missing weatherstripping from a Jeld-wen dealer, which around here would be home depot.

It's quite likely the bottom plates on the framing are out of plane, compounding your problem.

It's a losing battle. If you were my customer, I would encourage you to consider outswinging doors from a better manufacturer.

You said snow/rain enters at the junction of the doors....is this only at the threshold or along the full height of the doors?

Aside from the rotten rubber piece, Im inclined to think that these doors weren't installed very well. Any more pictures?

Looks like the foam pad is missing also. The same pad you put on the jamb where it meets the threshold should be on the astragal. That and longer weatherstrip on the astragal.
Also it doesn't look like the door has an adjustable threshold either.

The short astragal weatherstrip is still a problem with manufacturers.
Whenever I am putting in French doors or double entry door I always bring an extra piece of weatherstrip for the astragal because 9 out of ten times it will be too short.

The swing door needs to be closer to the stationary door. Then you need a longer sweep at the bottom. You should be good after that.

Same issue...I fix them with new Marvins ;) and pan them to perfection.

Those inswing Jeldwen really suck. Probably no pan either given the gnarly installation.

A couple more photos. I contacted Home Depot and they just gave me a 1-800 number to call.

There is a pad in the middle, as you can see in one of the photos below.
Such a cr@ppy design. I never understood the design logic of those doors. Great for mice, if you want them. :stuart:

You can buy those wedge pads at some of the HD's, too. Maybe stick another one on the opposing door edge, though I'm sure it's not a "proper" remedy. I just addressed the same issue for a home sale. (How bad is the rot on the jambs?)
