The manager just called me back from one of my suppliers. He said that alcoa and vytec both make it. No one stocks it though and it's almost 10/stick before my discount.

It comes in 12' sticks just like regular j-channel and installs just the same.

 

we've used the 2-1/2 before from mastic. The only thing I dont like is the miters dont always look super good cause they are flimsy. They are however a lot easier to use than lineals

 

are you guys talking about window trim? i am pricing a job as i type and i am trying to figure out what window trim to use. the guy has a bunch of half rounds and elipticals and he does'nt want azek or fypon. he wants the half round trim to be that crown molded type look(pediment) all in pvc. a company called ITEX and Advanced Trim Wright make pvc window trim. there is always bendable J but the guy wants something wider and more decorative. any other idea's ,feel free to let me know.

 

At Applicators Sales I get a 2 1/2" Wide Window Casing that I have used in the past, they also have a 3" Snap-In Crown model that I've used too. I also used there 3 1/2" and 5" Lineal's

Napco and Variform also make a 2 1/2" J-Channel. I believe what they make and Alcoa's may be identical as they are all owned by the same people.

 

its been featured in a issue of finehomebuilding, ill dig it out in a little while..

it definitely looks nice, i know i would have used it on a few jobs in the last year or so, instead we bent up our own j on the break, not wild about it do to how the aluminum scratches, especially on windows low to the ground in heavy traffic areas around houses

Yep. It was originally designed for their 40' suprema siding. The only thing I don't like about it is the center or the face collapses when used under or over a window. Otherwise it's a nice detail for gables etc

 

ya it's called jumbo J here. I have used it on lots of jobs. You can get it anywhere from 2" to 3" here.

 

Pricey until you factor in the labor savings compared to bending metal.

Labor savings closes that gap enough for me.

Not to mention I hate bending metal. So boooooorrrrriiiinnnnng to me. :no: so Im biased to use it.

 

Do you guys like this stuff because it has a wider face? More decorative?

honestly I am not a big fan of vinyl. it looks cheap and can be damaged easily.

 

Would you cut that with snips? Or could you rig up a saw jig for it?

They make a corner insert for the 2 1/2 wide faced J.
They look better to use them , then to have a gap corner. As this stuff is flimsy.
I think the price was 2.00 for 4 corners
