I've decided to hire my first Lead Carpenter.

What do I look for?
Red Flags?
Suggestions/tips?
What kind of questions should i ask him?

I should also add that this hire will be more experienced than me.

What do I look for?

A 6'-5", 250 lb Tai Chi Master, with the hands & eyes of a Neurosurgeon. Preferably off probation......

Red Flags?

If he doesn't have at least a well stocked 16' trailer and a fairly new pick up to drag your chit around...

Suggestions/tips?

Hire a retired NSA Black Ops officer to ask him a few questions...:whistling

What kind of questions should i ask him?

See above...

I should also add that this hire will be more experienced than me.

Imagine that....
Good luck....

Just make sure he's the right man for the job. I hired one guy that was a huge hard ass and ran a few of my guys off. He was a great carpenter but not really a good leader.

Directly after that I hired my plumbers brother in law. Another bad move but he had me fooled for about 2 months. He cost me some money in the end but he's gone now.
