when going over existing shingles(i hate doing that), do any of you guys install 3/8 insulation board when using INSULATED SIDING like cedar boards or prodigy? seems to me that the insulated siding is rigid enough to go directly over any wavy wood shingles...
again,i never do this but i have a very cheap home owner who is willing to sign a waiver stating i strongly recommended he removing his existing wood shingles.

technically you could just go directly over the shkes provided they are in good condition. if it were me,i would probably smooth it out by putting up some fan fold. however, this would most likely never happen because i would literally put a gun to the customers head and force him to remove the shakes.LOL
the insulated siding will protrude too much over existing shakes in my opinion. i have gone over asbestos before but they are flatter than a wood shake.

You are gonna have a build out of like 2", not to mention do you really want to put your name on that job? I realize you mention the waiver, but I'd probably just say that there is a right way and a wrong way. If anything, I'd just tear it off at a dramatic discount if you need the job that bad. It can't be that much more costly then the cost and labor of fanfold anyway....Just my $.02

for you guys that go over existing w/ foam board, what do you do w/ the windows? sometimes the J sticks out further than the window frame and with houses w/ no hangover on the rake, it poses a little bit of a problem.
