I have an old 220 GE heater i use in my a garage in the winter. It's probably 30 years old. It has a heating coil much like the old style top heating coils, and then a fan behind that pushing the heat. The heater started acting up the other day and so i took it apart and found some of the wires had shorted out. The old wires had some insulation around them that appeared to resemble fire resistant fabric tightly woven around the wire. My question is do they make replacement wire for this application that is insulated? I probably only need 2' of wire total. Is it possible to just replace with standard wire and then insulate with some sort of aftermarket insulation?

Thanks in advance.

You can buy rolls of it, high temp wire, woven glass jacket.
