Installing a Fence Gate at Stairs Going Up

Hi There,
Looking for some info (CANNOT FIND A MOLECULE ON THIS ON GOOGLE) on installing a gate to our exterior fence that sits right above the new concrete steps we just had poured. Where to position the gate with regards to the landing available? Should we push the gate out away from the steps for the landing option? Should we install 2 swinging gates rather that one large one requiring even more landing (I think). Thanks in advance for your input!!

Are you installing fencing in line with those 6x6's? I'm assuming that's municipal walk way just beyond slab?

The gate shouldn't swing past the landing and into the walkway when opened, but at the same time, it should also open outwards (it's easier to push the gate open while climbing the stairs, not practical to open into the stairs).

Usually I would recommend a single gate for that size opening, but in this case, the only option I see is to make it a double to reduce the swing radius and keep it from intruding on the side walk. It's not ideal but it will be functionable.

I like to use deck board instead of fence board for gates, it adds a bit more weight, makes for a good feeling swing, gives more meat to bite into for hardware, and is more durable.

is that 4' wide?

one gate, welded metal frame (or metal gate) hinged on inside of posts closest to the house but opening toward street seems logical to me. The gate will open about a little beyond 90 degrees.

I wouldn't open it toward the house, someone may open it while it's dark and while not realizing there are steps, take a tumble down them.

I think you can make both directions work...An inswing wouldn't be so bad if you kept it to the outside and an outswing might need to be downsized so as to not interfere with the public walk...maybe add a 4x4 buck to your posts.

Here's an outswing over two steps...never had a problem navigating.

Add some LV lighting as nighttime could be as issue I suppose.
