I have recently purchased a dewalt impact driver and upon the first times using it is has a burning smell when it is in use is this normal? I have the dewalt dcf885 if that matters. Thanks for the help, nick

I get that smell from mine, along with every dewalt impact I've used. No problems yet, it's just stinky

Don't have a Dewalt impact but have noticed that smell from a couple of different Ryobi drills/impacts for the first few weeks I used them. They still work great, could just be an initial use deal.

Good question. I've always wondered why some do it when new. Weird that it smells the same when one is old and burning up

The makita impact I have used doesn't smell so they must do something different or that something is all Burnt up

mine do the same,

like it has been said, new= burning
worn out= burning

hopefully the a day or two in between. we go through 4-5 a year
use them a lot though.

I always smell ozone when using mine, but after 4 years running 8 inch lag bolts it just keeps on going.

Maybe it has to do with the motor being brushed

New tools do it. I bought a Ryobi cordless 18ga a few months ago and it still puffs out a new tool smell.

its normal. dewalts do that. and i bet its not the brushless one.
