My Icynene guy is telling me to srpay the foam into the roof line instead of in the ceiling. This would mean I will have a warm attic in the winter and have to cool it in the summer. Should this be done?
That's the one! Forgot which one, it was up when this was originally posted. Thanks.
The concept is called 'conditioned space attics". There is no insulation in the ceiling and the space is conditioned passively. One of the big selling points is that your ductwork has much lower loss and that the humidity in the attic is controlled. Like buying a 14SEER A/C, the costs are paid upfront and pay off over the long term. With energy costs going up, and they will continue to do so, this may pay off sooner than later.
