Hydraulic Lift Rods

I built a cover for a attic disappear stair. I want to put some kind of hydraulic rod assembly so that it will hold the cover up but I will have to pull it down. Otherwise it will lift. Very similar to a tool box lid.

Any idea where I can look or what to google?

thanks

I don't know if the Green forum was the best choice to ask this question

It has to do with insulating an attic stair. I am trying to create a lid for the top of the box. The one I made can be moved over to the side for attic access. I am trying to come up with a hydraulic lift so that the lid can be lifted up and stay there.

Here are some pictures of the final product.

That's a good looking box
thanks. The rail was already there. I just insulated it and applied OSB to the heated side. I then laid a pc of plywood on top with the insulation stapled to it. It was for a client. Even though it was my first one, I think it will serve better and be more insulated than some of the other items that I have seen on the internet.

Well it looks like you left plenty of room for inprovement on your insulated box.
You need gas filled left arms that you would see on the lift gate on a minni-van check your auto parts store.

I built the covers out of 2 or 3 inch foam boards. Holding them together with gutter spikes then foaming and taping the seams. weather stiping along the bottom and Velcro straps on the bottom to keep them snug. Sorry no photos
