Less than 3% voltage drop at 2 amps. I've used a 1000' spool of 12/2 NM (didn't want to cut it) to run an automotive type battery charger at a low setting (2-5 amps) and it got the job done. However, the 100+ pound wight of that 500 foot cord would be enough to keep me from buying it.
 
Cords are described by number of conductors and building wire is by current carrying conductors.
May not make sense in this context but in the larger context when cables can be used for more than power distribution like data and controls it is important.
This cord is advertised wrong. It's not 12/3. It's 12/2 w/ground.
Yup, cord is different. Look at the jacket of any extension cord.
