How is a hammer measured?

I am looking at Stiletto hammers and I'm wondering if the measurement of 16-inches (or however long) is how long the hammer is including the hammer head, or if it is just referring to the handle below the hammer head, or what... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

On the stilettos its from the top of the handle. If that makes any sense. Its where the wedges are.

Yeah... hammers are measured by weight. The amount of energy delivered to the target by the hammer-blow becomes stronger as the head gets bigger. I believe a normal hammer is between 15 - 20 ounces. I hope this helps you out Carpenj4!

Inches and ounces are completely different my friend.
