There's been a few thefts in the neighborhood and I've been thinking of tightening up security at the shop and jobsite. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen the Dewalt system. Does anyone have that?

I was thinking of just buying some components and setting something up. A few motion detectors and 2 or 3 air horns should work.

Does anyone have a few gps locators in their tools? I had thought of installing a few and linking them to my computer or phone.

I have the DeWalt system with GPS.

I am the only one who has triggered it. It is set to turn on at 6:00pm and turn off at 6:00am, M-F and secured all day on the weekends.

If I move my trailer after hours my cell is ringing telling me the alarm has been tripped. When I first installed it if the wind blew hard it would set it off so I had to adjust the sensitivity of it.

Attatched to my shop is the dog kennel, about 1/2 acre. So if you want my tools, u will have to get past 3 dogs.

If I'm home, then it's 3 dogs and my shotgun. LOL
So if you're not home and I want to steal your stuff all I need is $10 worth of ground beef and $8 worth of rat poison?

What's your address? What kind of stuff do you have? Would you mind posting an inventory and some pictures?:shifty:

Nice try, but my dogs are trained to NOT take food from anyone but myself. But they will eat what they kill. :whistling

I read somewhere that you should never annoy a Canadian carpenter, I'm not sure about that, but when I worked with my grandfather and uncles my Uncle Greg stuck me upside down in a 55 gal drum of water for being a wiseass. Grandpa "Pe'pere" chewed us both out, me for talking smack to a master stonemason and my Uncle Greg for wasting water.

Nah, I just live in a place where I can leave the keys in my trucks ignition and the house and shop unlocked.

I have yet to meet a dog that won't accept a treat from a stranger. Must have taken a lot of training to achieve that result. You must have the patience of Job.

After 4 years, I finally put a door on my shed.

One of these days, I'll get a lock for it.

At any given time, there's usually 3k worth of tools in the back of my truck unsecured.

In ten years, I've had the following stolen:

My laptop and digicams out of my house
Gas from my shed.

I filled a gas can with half water/half gas and left it in my shed. It was the lat gas ever stolen from me.

Yes, takes a bit of work. The comand is "leave it" This begins as a puppy, and get your neighbor to try to feed them. Same comand, repeat, repeat.

Anytime I tell them to leave it, they won't have anything to do with whatever it is. ie my shoes, etc.

Sounds like you have a nice area there. My area is ok, but a little isolated, so most people own dogs. Most bite too.
