i have a .040 transformer thats on a 480v radial saw, it says that output is 24v. it was hooked up for 230v but the old electrician rewired t and it never worked. the transformer smells really burnt. but how can i tell if its bad or not? thanks

Well lets see, we have a 480 vlt saw and a multi tap transformer that was wired for 230 vlt. Yep I think that thats blown in a split sec. If it smells burnt and there is no 24vlt on the secondary side, yep its blown. Are you useing this for a starter for the saw? Multi tap transformers must be wired to the correct power supply, otherwise it will burn in a matter of sec.
