This customer wants to hide the closet door as much as possible with no visible casing on the outside. The door is textured and painted to match the wall. I'll be replacing the hinges with Soss hinges. The handle removed and replaced with a skeleton key latch, with only the keyhole visible through the texture.
While I have an idea, I'm fishing for others for how to remove the casing and extend the texture all the way to the edge of the door.
I want to do this in a way to minize the potential for stress cracks, especially since they are rather common in this building (though not around this door.

I don't see any way other than foam fill and then overcoat with a elastomeric coating. Mud won't cut it. I don't know how good of a match you'll end up with.
