Has anyone used HomeAdvisor's new Membership program that doesn't charge by the lead?

I cut down on HomeAdvisor leads by taking them only from the highest income zip code in my area so they have offered a new pay by the month instead of pay by the lead service. They call it their Membership program and the leads show up in a customer's search as the ones after the 3 pay per lead leads. They only charge $29 per month no matter how many phone calls you get. They advertise your actual phone numbers and website addresses and the one who gets the top spot of those who are Membership contractors is based on your reviews.

Has anyone tried this new service?

Seems like not a half bad deal if I get an average of 2 per month so my cost per lead would be about $15. I can't see it getting even one per month if you're not in the top spot for the Membership program because people are still going to be calling the 3 pay per lead leads above you so you still will be competing with too many other HomeAdvisor contractors. And if you are not the top one for Membership forget it, you're not going to get any phone calls I recon.

Hey Kirby - The membership option is fairly new. I believe that we have only had it launched for a little over a month. If you have any questions about it, please feel free to contact me directly and I will make sure to get the answers for you!

Thanks!

Any ideas on how i can promote and market my company better? How to get more costumers.?
If you cant outrank homeadvisor who uses a script to create town plus location website pages that have no real benefit for the end user then I dont know what to tell you.

Buying leads is a decent start really. So is creating your own lead gen vehicle. Keep searching.

Ryan, I have been a Home Advisor customer since Sep of 2010. one of my companies, Superior Home Solutions is listed with them; I have accumulated 198 reviews, making number in number of reviews out of 85,000 members in the network.

In sum, the ROI (return on investment) has been great and they also have been very good in giving me credit on leads that were beyond the scope of my expertise/catagory. The key to being successful with them is to answer the lead within 30 seconds of notification and being persistent on contacting the lead in case you did not make initial contact.

While I plan on keeping HA, today i signed with Yodle PPC (pay per click) program. The reason I chose Yoddle is because they have a very strong proprietery system that computes the proper keywords that will best convert in your trade. You're given a dashboard that tells you who clicked on your placement ads...all geographic locations are recorded to monitor traffic and frequency. This is all managed by Yoddle and the ad campaigns change based on what their proprietery system recommends.

I have contacted 15 active users (contractors, dentists, spa owners, inspectors, surgeons). All have yielded significant results on their ROI. However, all said that the optimization takes 45 to 90 days for the system to tweak the proper keywords that best converts into sales.

I joined 3 days ago, and received my first lead today. The lead converted into a sale. It was a general home inspecton lead for a 2000 square feet home. I charged them 375.00 for the inspection. My monthly budget with Yodle for the next 90 days is 200.00 per month. I have already recovered my expense for the rest of the month. I plan on increasing the monthly budget as i see an increase in the ROI.

If anyone likes further information, feel free to contact me at 408-644-4379.

I guess that depends on what you would consider "great", and that will vary depending on the industry. For painting, my average ticket is about $2000 and if I have to spend $200, or 10%, to get that job I think I've spent too much. My goal has always been under $100 (5%) per job or I nix that marketing avenue. HomeAdvisor/ServiceMagic was costing me about $160 per job (I'd close 1 out of 4 estimates I did) so I nixed them, except for leads from the highest income zip in my area, which is 8th highest in the state.

Someone might argue that wouldn't it be worth it to pay 10%, or even 20%, to get a job since I'm still making a profit? In some industries yes, but not painting. Paying more might get me more volume, but then that leads to another problem: finding employees who can do the work. I don't know about home inspecting where I'm thinking you can find college kids to train but for painting it's hard to find someone who isn't a drug addict and can actually produce and you would want in your customer's house. I just fired an older guy who was capable of good work but was slower than a seven year itch yet thought he was fast enough. Too many fried brain cells for the old boy to have an accurate perception of himself. Anyway, I don't go after volume, I go after higher profit margins since I have one painter who is one of the best in town and can do quality work for picky, higher-paying customers. Higher profit margins includes finding effective but less-expensive marketing on a cost-per-acquired customer.

HomeAdvisor is a good lead source for those starting out because when just starting out in a business you just need some business because any business is better than no business.

Hey thanks JB - That painting.kirbyworks.net site is a work-in-progress (euphemism for "under construction"). Being my first website creation while learning HTML I got off on the wrong foot with coding and it's gotten too complicated to do much with. I really need to put it on something like bootstrap to make it work. I might actually get it done then.

Point well taken... Is HA charing you 160.00 per painitng lead? Here in CA, the most expensive painting lead from HA is listed for 63.00.

On a side note, if Yodle's PPC program proves cheaper and generates more ROI, im going to completely halt HA. What HA does is basically PPC. They buy ketwords and package the leads and sell them for 10 fold the price that you would pay on a PPC. The cheapest lead is get from HA is 15.00. The most expensive is 32.00. The most aggressive PPC painting campaign will not charge more than 5.00 per click.
anyone know if theres a equivalent homadvisors for Canada ?

No, $160 is for 4 leads, that's my cost per paying customer since I close about 25% of my bids.

Why not just go straight to Google AdWords and buy your clicks from them at cost? It's not that hard to do.

It is really quite an amazing piece of work as far as a paint site goes :)

Good way to think out side of the paint can!

Does 100% go to Google or does Yodle take a cut?

A small cut goes to Yodle as part of the PPC management. Of the 200/month that I have set up, 28 goes to Yodle. I think it's a fair amount considering that theyre providing the statistical numbers on keywords, ad campaigns.

Other companies wanted 40 to 45 dollars management fee on every 100 spent. I found one that would charge a flat fee of 500.00 regardless of the monthly budget.

Kirbyworks, I thought I'll share my data with you on HA Paid membership Program. As i have stated in the past, I have been with HA since Sept of 2010. Five days ago, I decided to add the 29.99/month membership program which lists me on 6 directories that belong to HA.

Since then, I have received 5 calls from the 1-800 Contractor Directory. I converted 2 calls into a sale. Theother 3 calls were far for me. So, nw all the calls that come from the directory are routed to me for free instead of being routed to HA. Not a bad deal.

All calls that came confirmed that they saw me on 1800 Contractor Directory which lists the same HA profile page. The nice thing about the free directories is that you can get process calls that are beyond your geographic area... unlike with paid leads.

So, for 29.99/month, it's worth the money thus far until proven otherwise.

They have the 49.99/month memebership which includes the making of a website, but since i already have one, i opted for the 29.99 deal.

This memebership program is really good for profiles that have high ranking reviews. They'll place you on top of everyone else.
