I stumbled across a review of construction estimating software at the toptenreviews.com website. They have Goldenseal as the number one product. Has anyone used it? It appears to be a completely integrated package for smaller builders that handles estimating, job costing, project management, vendor management, accounting, etc etc.

Thanks,
Brian

I ran some numbers for in our area looking to estimate the cost on labor based on the prices from Goldenseal, they seem off ...

160 sq ft complete concrete wall form & finish $6.85 = $1096.00... doesn't that sound a little high?

Footings, 2x4 forms & reinforcing rod included $8.31 Lin Ft.
My dimensions = 426.5 LF x $8.31 = $3543.38 ... again, looks high to me!

Have any of you had luck doing estimates with Goldenseal?

I use and like it.

You only get out of it what you put into it. I think a lot of us (me included, when I started looking at software) think that estimating software is a silver bullet, that it'll do the work for you. It's not, and it won't. You have to know your numbers, and you have to have the skills needed to put an estimate out with a yellow pad and a calculator to make estimating software work.

You can use a subscription based package like Clear Estimates if you're comfortable with someone else's pricing. I'm not. You are at the mercy of the law of averages if you do that; too low one time, too high another. Heaven help you if you're too low two or three times straight!
