Hardiebacker installation GC responsibility

619 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Diamond D.
I am submitting a bid for a full bed veneer fireplace that will be adhered to stud framing wrapped Hardiebacker board.

Just wondering if this is typically the GCs responsibility to install the Hardiebacker then mine to come in to tape and thinset and proceed with veneer installation? This will determine if I include it within the bud. Thanks in advance

So you’ve never done a f/p. No prints/scope

When in doubt include it as a line item so I know if I should eliminate from your number.
$300 fireplace
$200 hearth
$100 supply and install hardiebacker.
Then I consider if I want to or can install the hardie myself cheaper or let you do it.
You are covered, I am aware of the issue and we both avoid a problem.

Yep. ^^^^^^^ What he said.

I usually do it on my jobs, but my tile guy is older and doesn't want to do it anymore.

I know this up front and bid it on my end.

Ask your GC. Jeez. How hard is that. If you can't discuss this simple item, how will you discuss the hard stuff when things get squirrely.

Yep. I've eaten a lot of the crappy ends of jobs because I as the GC took things for granted.

Not gonna happen anymore. My subs will be signing contracts, or at least a detailed scope of work.

I'm tired of digging ditches and cutting concrete after I say I want a start to finish bid.

Not one for a GC

It was very vague just had elevation/plan view and a schematic of the wainscoting install not the fireplace. Water proofing, CMU stone ledge, veneer, etc

If this the route involved, why do you want CBU?
