Hard hats

What kind/style do you guys prefer? I switched to a full brim style last year and like it. Also who here still pays attention to the colour of the hard hat?

Years ago when I first started out in my trade a superior told me to toss my brand new yellow hard hat because it meant either temp worker or cleanup guy, gofer and so on. I had no idea about this at the time and just bought the first decent hard hat I had saw which happened to be yellow.

I'm still waiting for my full brim from 3M...

I also heard that gray is OSHA, white is usually a super, etc, etc, etc.

Although with the companies I've been with I've gotten orange, blue, white... I don't think it matters anymore.

I hate yellow because it's like a traffic come on your head.
Hierarchy of hat colours is dead, I wear a cheap plastic one as they are the lightest.
I like MSA hats the best... I don't wear full brim....A lot of companies give hats their company colors... I have an old Fibre metal hat I sometimes wear.

Aren't they all plastic?
I don't like it when guys who aren't in charge of anything wear white hats. I've known more than a few that like to pretend they are the super/foreman.

Fiberglass hats... also some plastic ones are thicker than others

And on some jobsites pink = visitor wearing a borrowed hard hat.

No one wants to steal em if they are pink.
My hard hat is fiberglass.

There use to be metal ones but I think they got banned. Some are lined with Styrofoam or are thicker heavier material.
I've had cheap white ones and finally bought a nice msa fiberglass and I love it. They're expensive though
I wear an extra large sized MSA plastic non vented V guard with dielectric ear muffs and goggles attached to it, if I'm in the sun or around iron workers I added a velcro canvas neck flap.

If you have a big head I highly recommend the larger sized MSAs, I'm a 7 3/4 hat size and normal ones look idiotic on me and probably aren't that safe.
