I had a problem with my listing, the marker for my location was not showing up in the right place. It was about 20 miles away from my office. I notified Google but that didn’t help.

I finally figured out what the problem was. When I set up the listing the guidelines said that if you service the customer at their home you should not show your address in your listing, so that’s the way that I did it. When I set it up I listed all the cities in my service area which showed up on their map. Google placed my map marker in the center of the service area, that’s why it was so far from my office.

I think there is a real downside to following their guidelines, your listing won’t show up very often and the marker won’t show your exact location. When I did a search for roofing companies where my office was I wasn’t even listed. The only way I could find my company was if I searched by name.

So today I changed my listing to show my address and now my listing shows up when I search for roofers in my area. What a PITA, I’ve had it set up wrong for over a year.

I think you still need to merge your places with your google plus for business page. I would have to check my admin section but I dont believe you need to fiddle with the list of towns any more. Just set your radius.

And the reason they listed you in the center has to do with an algo change back in 2012. I thikn. they centralized busiensses according to their location, or sometihng like that, anyways, check your G+ for biZ page, it may have a notifdication about merging somehwere on it.

Do you have your address hidden? If so were you able to merge the two listings? Also be careful with the address being shown, I think Matt (Ohio Home Doctor) had lots of trouble with that last year.

Find a local seo guy and have him handle it. You are losing too much money if your G+ page is a mess. Pay Ethan to do it, he digs the local scene.
