I stumbled upon this site while looking for some information on gel stains, and it looked like a place where I might learn a few tricks and share some as well. I have been a renovation contractor in NE Ohio since the 70's, who downsized to being a Handyman about 6 years ago. Lots less headaches, the work is steady and I actually have fun helping people out with their small to mid sized problems. The biggest hindrance to this business if the proliferation of amateurs in the last few years who are not professional and who do substandard work. Bad eggs have always been in the trades, but with the current economic climate there are more of them trying to get into the business, but lacking the proper skills, experience and credentials. I get too many calls to come in and fix what someone else has messed up, and it makes the entire industry look bad. There is lots of work out there for everyone, but let's make sure it's done safely, professionally and at a fair price.
