Ive tried everything I can think of. Air brake line antifreeze seems to work about the best. Trying a can of heet the gas additive stuff right now. Well see how it works, should be pretty gentle on the seals as it is used in cars. That's my thought anyway. Anybody have the magic answer?

Another thing lovely about the cold it the tear it puts on guns. Just broke a driver yesterday. :furious:

Griz Im in bend. Working south of bend right now. Grants pass is a pretty nice place, are you fishing for stealhead right now?

Hm
I always have run a water seperator, they freeze up to. Never heard of a spitter valve. Its imposable to keep moisture out of the compressor. Just compresed air itself produces moisture and cold. When nailing of sheathing the gun head will start to frost and then it shoots slower and slower. If you let it sit a minute it goes back to normal.

Here is how we did it. On jobs with both compressor and generator we built a box by leaning plywood together, nop nails, just gravity. Put the compressor and generator in the box and what you have is hot air being compressed.

Between that and winter tool oil in the lines with the auto oiler at work, never had lines freeze.

Ive used alcohol before to. I actually use it on the trailer lock and machine ignitions. The problem is it breaks down oil and causes seals to wear out fast. I had three guns get rebuilt in one month of using it.

I keep a heat lamp on the air intake and keep it in the trailer. The warm air help as does the winter oil. Ive only used the senco winter oil. Ive seen there are others but Ive never seen them in a store around . The senco oil works alright but its really gummy.

I run a seperator as I said above always have. I also run 20 ft of line before the seperator so the condisation becomes more liquid than gas. I still everyone in awhile get a hose that starts to freeze up, or a gun that starts to freeze. I only have issues in the teens and below. Maybe griz is right to cold to work.

What hose are you using?

Griz is wrong, it is able to work in the weather.

We run our separator right on the compressor. We also use Flexeel hoses.

Antifreeze oil in every line every morning
I put about 20 drops in every hose

You need to start this process in the fall

I run a 3/8(I think) 100 feet
Then 3 way split to 1/4( i think)

I have had zero freeze up 2 years in a row

In the past before I started this
the worst freeze ups
were when the temp lingers around freezing
Above freezing in the day lots of moisture
Morning
fire every thing up and you are trying to push ice through your fittings

Drain the tanks everyday also

Ive heard about antifreeze to just always been a little hesitant. A rep told you that? Have you had any seal problems. I was thinking about using antifreeze this year but didnt know anyone who has so I second guessed it.

I agree the lead line should be 3/8. Keep the hoses in the cab of your truck so they can warm up and dry out on the ride home and the way to work. Few drops of Kilfrost in the guns and hoses. I agree that most of the freeze ups occur near freezing. When it is colder than 20, things seem ok.
